The Half-Assed Housewife

There's the perfect housewife (and then there's me)

I wish I could say that I am the perfectly-coifed, well-mannered, organized wife with the beautiful kids. The kind of woman who could wear pearls and heels and use a "day-to-night" outfit without getting it soiled with baby spit-up or coffee before I can transition it from "day" to "night". The kind of woman  who is well-read, creates "rainy day activity boxes" for her children, sings lullabies in perfect pitch, and serves perfectly healthy organic meals with edible garnishes (from local markets, of course) to her husband when he arrives home from work. Alas, I am not that woman. I aspire to be that woman, but something tells me that being that woman is not exactly in my chemical make-up. However, since I am a glass-half-full-whenever-I'm-not-having-a-meltdown kind of gal, I have decided to try my best to be this woman that I have read about/seen in movies/espied in the grocery store.

This is my experiment. I'm going to be undertaking a new task (probably suggested by a friend or a parenting magazine that insists that not everyone's perfect, but also teaches you how to make "rainy day activity boxes", your own organic baby food, and your own wrapping paper). Who knows? Maybe after this entire thing, I will end up becoming that woman who can fully juggle the roles of work, mom, wife, and throwing a hot-damn dinner party everyone will be talking about (or maybe I'll at least be able to use the microwave correctly).

In this site, you will find things I've tried in order to become a much better mom than what I started out as (considering I have had limited experience with babies & children before my own popped into the world, there is a pretty big learning curve, and, as I see it--the only way I can go from here is up!). Or you can just laugh at my sorry ass as I pretend to be a good housewife.

My name is Michelle, and I am the half-assed housewife. I am a high school English teacher (don't gasp, please, I love my job) who enjoys food, writing, and photography. All of the photographs on this site were taken by me (except for this one--my hubby is responsible for that picture).
